Our School Breakfast Program goes on an "Offer" versus "Serve" (OVS) policy, which essentially says that any student getting breakfast can decline some of the options. They must take a minimum of three offered items, one of which must be a fruit or a vegetable. Every day, the students are served milk, grains, protein, fruits, and vegetables. Some example combinations are listed below.
Seasoned Potatoes, Strawberries, and Milk (Vegetable + Fruit + Milk)
Biscuit Sandwich, Strawberries, and Milk (Grain + Fruit + Milk)
Biscuit Sandwich, Strawberries, and Seasoned Potatoes (Grain + Fruit + Vegetable)
But just because OVS is in place, not every student has to decline anything; they can take more than the minimum required. For further questions, email Ashlee Lewis, the Director of Food Services at alewis@sacs.k12.in.us.
