Juniors: 2023-24 Internship Program

Attention all Juniors (w/ a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher),

There will be a MANDATORY callout meeting for anyone interested in participating in the Internship Program next school year on January 13, 2023, at 7:10 a.m. in the Community Room. Mr. Rogers will give you a program overview, including all of the requirements as well as what to expect as a Homestead intern. You will also receive the internship application at this meeting. The Homestead High School Internship program is one of the most popular courses/experiences offered at Homestead. As such, this meeting will serve as the first round in the selection process. Students who miss this meeting (without prior notice to Mr. Rogers) will not be allowed to enroll/participate in the internship program next school year.

Please contact Mr. Rogers with any questions at brogers@sacs.k12.in.us

Taste of Homestead

One of Homestead's most beloved traditions is the Taste of Homestead event held every Spring. Taste of Homestead aims to showcase a variety of cultures from around the world in the most delicious way. Homestead students first pick a country to represent, then do research on the country and its culture. Lastly, students prepare a dish to share with the Homestead community! At the event, each group will set up a table with a poster displaying their research findings, then they will serve their dish to the event attendees. This year, Taste of Homestead will be on Wednesday, March 15th from 6-7:30 pm. If you would like to register for a Taste of Homestead, click here. Please see Mrs. Beckman or Sr. Peeper if you have any questions.

National Honors Society and Internship Program: Volunteer Hours

Attention all students who are involved in the National Honors Society or in Homestead's internship program! Remember to be completing your volunteer hours before the end of May. The end of the year will be here in the blink of an eye, and volunteer hours may begin to dwindle. Start getting those hours in, so they can be paced out over the course of the semester!

National Honors Society: As a student in the National Honors Society, getting volunteer hours is crucial before the end of the year. A major opportunity here at Homestead is the ability to tutor your fellow peers! This is a great way to gain hours, and you can even choose to tutor during your study hall. All you have to do is log your hours by submitting the google form after you complete your tutoring sessions. You can also contact the NHS board members for more information on various volunteer opportunities. All NHS members need 5 hours of non-affiliated volunteer work and 5 hours of NHS-affiliated hours.

Internship Program: For any seniors involved in an internship second semester, be sure to be considering when and where you will be completing your 10 volunteer hours before the end of this semester.

Regardless of whether or not you are involved in the above programs, it is always good to complete volunteer hours. Volunteering is a great way to get involved and give back to the community. Volunteer hours look great on a resume, job application, or even a college application! Reach out to any local organization or a local event to get started.

Academic Support and Tutoring

  • Classroom Teacher Support: Communicate with your teacher(s)! Ask for help! Every teacher will be willing to work with you! Students should make every effort to work with specific teachers before or after school.

  • National Honor Society (NHS): Free Tutoring in all subjects from our Junior and Senior National Honor Society students is available. Email your counselor to start the process of being matched with an NHS tutor.

  • World Language Tutoring: See your world language teacher for a contact list of peer tutors in all languages! Additionally, click HERE for a schedule for when Spanish teachers are available to tutor students.

  • Peer/Student Math tutors: See your math teacher for a list of student tutors and contact information. Don't forget about the Math Resource Room available during your Study Hall period.

  • Ask Rose: Ask Rose is a free math and science tutoring service for Indiana and other students in grades 6-12. Tutors are Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology students who major in math, science or engineering—which means they’re more than equipped to help with just about any math or science homework problem. The program is certified by the National Tutoring Association. Click Here for More Information
