After School Pick-up Changes-- You may now exit campus onto Aboite Center Road
To relieve some of the congestion that occurs on Homestead Road after school, we encourage drivers who are picking up students after school to use the road that goes behind the stadium to exit our campus onto Aboite Center Road, especially if you will be traveling to the west and north after you leave Homestead.
Drivers must pause and wait for the buses to leave the lot before proceeding to Aboite Center Road. (See the note below showing where cars need to stop and wait for the buses to leave.)
Drivers can turn right or left as they exit our campus by driving to Homestead Road.
Parents who use the Spartan Roundabout can continue to exit our campus by driving to Homestead Road. However, if you usually turn left on Homestead Road when you leave, we strongly recommend that you take the back exit instead. The Homestead Road exit only works well for cars that need to turn right by the SACS District Office.
Every year, Homestead students gather in groups to design a booth centered around a different country/culture. Each group has a table, a visual display about the region, and the sample snacks that represent the culture. While A Taste of Homestead began in 2015 with just a combination of students in Homestead's French, Spanish, German, and Latin Clubs, it has grown to include all Homestead students. This year, guests can sample food from over 40 different places around the world.
Make sure to stop by from 6:00-7:30 p.m. on February 26th to take part in this wonderful and fun-filled event for where students and families can connect over food from different cultures.
On March 12, Homestead High School is hosting a Transition Fair for SACS secondary students and their families. The goal of this event is to connect students and their families with resources to support a smooth transition from school to adulthood. Transition plans assist students with setting and meeting post-secondary goals in three key areas: education and training, career choices and employment, and independent living. Community organizations, service providers, and local employers will be available to answers to questions families may have about the transition process.
Students and families can learn more about the Transition Fair on the Southwest Allen County Special Education Website, by contacting senior Xander Tuttle at xander.tuttle@students.sacs.k12.in.us, or by contacting Special Education teacher Chelsea Walters at cwalters@sacs.k12.in.us.
This January, some of our Homestead students and teachers had the opportunity to take a long weekend trip to Washington D.C to tour the United States Capital. They were in Washington D.C. for four days. They flew out of Fort Wayne on the morning of January 18th and returned on January 21st.
The intention of the trip was to watch the Inauguration of President Trump; however, due to the cold temperatures, the ceremony was moved inside. Students instead watched the inauguration from the hotel conference room. Though the Inauguration was moved indoors due to the cold weather, that did not take away from the overall adventure. Students still had the opportunity to tour famous landmarks and museums including the Washington Monument, MLK Jr. Memorial, FDR Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Korean Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Pentagon Memorial, Iwo Jima Memorial, and the World War II Memorial. They also visited Mount Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery, the Holocaust Museum, the Smithsonian American History Museum, and the National Air and Space Museum.
Mr. James, one of the chaperones and a Homestead History teacher said that "Due to security and barricades, we were not able to get near the Capitol Building or the White House, but overall, it was an amazing experience and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! The Capital was still bustling with activity, including streets full of supporters and street vendors on nearly every corner. We were able see Marine One helicopters perform practice runs, and we passed Vice President Harris' motorcade as we travelled around the city. The weather presented its own challenges, but after a few twists and turns and a little flexibility, we were still able to have some memorable experiences, such as building snowmen and making snow angels on the National Mall near the Washington Monument. Whether it was first-time flights, experiencing what it is like to ride the metro, or witnessing the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, students were able to make lifetime memories that they will be able to reflect on and be reminded of every four years for the rest of their lives."

Student Parking Changes
Student Parking has been impacted by the demolition plans. Please watch this Student Parking Video to review where student drivers with parking permits will be allowed to park during the second semester. Please know that because parking will be even more restricted than it has been, student parking rules will be strictly enforced on our campus. Students must have their permit visible in their vehicle and can only park in the areas designated for student parking.
The north side of Homestead High School, which runs along Aboite Center Road, is being torn down. Starting in January, Homestead will no longer have access to the Aboite Center Road staff parking lot. Teachers will now be required to park on the south side of the building in the large lot next to the band practice field. A a result, there will be limited student parking in that lot. Approximately 200 spaces will be set aside for teachers and staff in the former student lot with approximately 100 spaces set aside for students. Student spaces will be south of the red line indicated in the image below. Student parking will remain available at the South Lot and Summit Middle School. There will also be additional spaces for students available adjacent to the community baseball field, on the Summit side of Homestead Road. Students parking in the South Lot will enter Homestead through Door 1. Students parking on the Summit Middle School side of Homestead Road will enter Homestead through Door 33.
Students - make sure your parking tags are displayed and that you are parking in the designated student parking locations. Due to the tight restrictions on parking second semester, the new faculty lot will be monitored, and all cars parking in a designated staff space without a staff parking sticker will be ticketed and/or towed. The new student parking lot will be in the space created by tearing down the old part of Homestead. We will have over 900 student parking spaces once the lot is finished. We hope that the student lot will be available in August 2025. We apologize for this inconvenience. Fortunately, this next phase indicates that we are close to having the building project completed and soon, all of the wonderful new features of the building and campus will be ready for use.
With the new semester, the construction here at Homestead begins to close. Here are some updates coming with the new year:
New Lunch Line -- A new lunch line will debut in January. This line will be open in the new section of the cafeteria. It is undecided what food will be served in this line, but students can look forward to putting this line to use after winter break.
Demolition of the Freshman Academy—The long-awaited demolition is set to occur this semester. Our Freshman Academy, formerly the old Woodside, will be torn down. In its place, a new staff parking lot will be built. Details about our parking changes because of this demolition are under "Parking Changes for Students and Staff" below. This information details how students and staff should proceed with parking for the 2024-2025 spring semester.
New Offices -- Due to the construction, office staff have been without professional offices for awhile. This will change when we return from Winter Break, as new offices will open up for our secretaries, counselors, and administrators. These new offices will be located next to door 33 and are expected to be open for use by January 7th.
Homestead Students and Parents,

If you cannot remember whether one has been ordered, you can email yearbook sponsor Sarah Behrendt at sbehrendt@sacs.k12.in.us.
Unfortunately, Parent Club has seen a significant decrease in funding this year, which puts them thousands of dollars into the red when funding for activities for Homestead staff and students.
