Who/What - It’s a document that proclaimed colonial independence from England, written by TJ for KGIII and signed by many founding fathers
Periodization – 7/4/1776, in a period of growing tensions before the Am. Rev.
Context – It was signed in Philadelphia by officials chosen to voice our frustration for us
Purpose / Impact – It led to the Am. Rev. and eventually our independence.
So, a good identification might look something like this:
Declaration of Independence
A document that cut political ties with Great Britain and proclaimed the colonies to be independent. It was authored by Thomas Jefferson for the audience of KGIII. It was signed on July 4th, 1776 in Philadelphia, Pa. amidst growing tensions between both nations. It led to the American Revolution and, eventually, official independence for the United States.
