Week of: August 17-21
Dear Coyote Families,
What a FIRST full week for our Coyotes! 🐾
Our students went swimming, navigated lots of rain, adjusted to indoor recess, and continued learning the routines and procedures that help our school run smoothly. Through it all, I have seen so many smiles, high-fives, teamwork, and moments of growth!
Our expectations are high—and our students are rising to meet them! I am so proud of the way our students are learning, growing, and showing what it means to be part of the Coyote Pack.
Thank you for partnering with us and supporting our students as we work together to help every child become the best version of themselves. When we work together, we truly are ONE PACK with ONE PURPOSE! ❤️🖤

Elementary Handbook:
Attendance Policy
Regular attendance is necessary, as it is a prime factor in student success. When a student is absent, a parent should call the school attendance line prior to the beginning of the school day. Every school in SACS has a 24-hour automated attendance line for parent use.
If the school does not receive a notification call, school personnel will attempt to contact the custodial parent for verification of the student’s absence. If a custodial parent cannot be reached, attempts will be made to contact each person on the student’s emergency listing until someone has been reached. If no one on the emergency listing can be reached, school personnel will make a visit to the student’s home address. If no one is home, school personnel may make inquiries from a neighbor(s) regarding the student. If still no one can be reached and the student’s absence has not been verified, local law enforcement authorities may be notified. The goal of this procedure is to ensure student safety.
A note from the parent providing the reason for the absence should also be sent with the student upon returning to school.
Student RFID Badges will be used to:
Scan on/off the bus
Enter/exit the building
This system is designed to streamline processes, enhance student safety, and reduce manual tracking.
RFID badges will be worn on each students backpack. We will zip-tie the badge to each students backpack. Please make sure to bring their backpack to school each and every day. All bus riders and walkers will scan their badges when they enter and exit the building.
We have begun our NWEA testing! Grades 3–5 have just completed Math, and grades K–2 will begin testing this week.
Why do we give NWEA? NWEA helps us understand where students are academically at the beginning of the year and identify their strengths and areas for growth. This data gives teachers valuable information to help plan instruction, set meaningful goals, flexible grouping, and monitor student growth throughout the year.
Most importantly, NWEA is one piece of information we use to better understand and support each student. Our goal is not simply a score—it is using the data to make informed instructional decisions and help every student grow.
One Pack. One Purpose. Student Growth!

Come Be Part of Our Coyote PTC!
We’re so thankful for the parents who are stepping into leadership roles, those who continue to serve, and everyone who helps make our school community stronger.
There is already so much excitement building for the events, opportunities, and memories ahead! We would love for you to be part of it.
Join our Coyote PTC and help us make a difference for our students, staff, and school community!
ONE PACK. ONE PURPOSE.
Students will not attend school, complete eLearning assignments, or have attendance requirements on these days.
Instead, SACS staff will participate in full-day professional development designed to support continued growth and improvement.
To help keep all of our Coyotes safe and healthy, please keep the following in mind:
All snacks and birthday treats must be store-bought and individually wrapped (per student handbook).
Birthday treats may be dropped off in the office. The teacher will be notified, and the student can pick up the treats from the office.
Please be mindful of student allergies. Teachers should communicate known allergies with families when appropriate.
Birthday celebrations do not always have to include food! Fun items such as pencils, erasers, stickers, bookmarks, or other small school supplies are great alternatives.
To help maintain an inclusive and positive school environment, birthday or party invitations may not be distributed at school. Please share invitations outside of school hours.
Thank you for helping us keep our Coyote Pack safe, healthy, and included!

All technology devices will remain at school, along with their charging cords and charging blocks. If we are aware of an upcoming weather situation that may impact our school schedule, devices and chargers will be sent home with students.
Thank you for supporting us as we work to ensure that the time students spend on technology is purposeful, meaningful, and supports their learning. We appreciate your partnership as we continue to make thoughtful decisions about technology use at Covington Elementary!
