On June 30th, 2026, St. Fransisca Xavier Cabrini Preschool in Wallacha celebrated two milestones: the graduation of its KG-3 students and the blessing and inauguration of a new classroom and multi-purpose hall. The morning began with prayer and a flag-hoisting ceremony led by the graduating students. Fr. Desta, Parish Priest of St. Gabriel parish, Wallacha, blessed the new buildings with holy water, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony performed by Fr. Desta and Sr. Berhane Ashebo (MSC), Executive Director of Cabrini Ministries Ethiopia.
The community then gathered inside the newly inaugurated multi-purpose hall for the graduation ceremony. The event was graced by the presence of Fr. Wondimu, Sr. Evarlyne (MSC), Sr. Elifnesh (MSC), Sr. Addise (MSC), Sr. Maureen (MSC Novice), Ms. Senait (CME Finance Officer), and other CME head office staff.
Mr. Desalegn, the School Principal, welcomed all the participants and congratulated the graduating students and their families. The students delighted the audience with creative performances, including drama, poetry, and cultural dances. Families beamed with pride, cheering and clapping for their children as they showcased their talents. High-achieving students were awarded for their academic excellence, and teachers were also recognized for their tireless efforts. Sr. Berhane presented the awards and expressed her gratitude to the teachers for their dedication.
In her address, Sr. Berhane reaffirmed the commitment of Cabrini Ministries Ethiopia to opening pathways for the new generation and kindling the flame of knowledge that will illuminate their journey ahead. She reflected on the community’s persistent question over the years: “When will we have more classrooms?” With gratitude, she announced that the new building now stands as an answer to that prayer.
“This is for you. We missionaries come and go, but the seeds we plant and the foundations we build will remain to serve you and your children for generations to come.”
The families and the broader community were overwhelmed with joy. One parent shared, “Words cannot express our happiness. This new classroom and hall will shape not only the lives of our children but also many more to come. We are deeply grateful to Cabrini Ministries Ethiopia for investing in our children’s future.”
Teachers also expressed their relief and gratitude, noting that the new facilities would make it easier to teach and feed the students, a task that had been challenging in the past with limited space.
The day concluded with a shared lunch and coffee, a time of fellowship and celebration. It was also a bittersweet moment for the school community, as it marked Sr. Addise’s farewell from where she had been serving as a teacher. Her presence and dedication to the school and its students have been a blessing, and she was deeply appreciated by teachers, students, and families alike.
The day was truly filled with joy, gratitude, and hope for the future.
