A Day in Nursery

Nursery Schedule

Hi! While I know that you know what we do in the nursery classroom, I thought it might be helpful for you to see what our regular schedule is. I have tried to adapt it to be more useful in a home setting. I know you won't follow the schedule at home, but it might help you to come up with one of your own. I know it is very difficult to manage working from home, time with your kids, and household chores.

8:10-8:20 Drop-off - At this time, the kids have to unpack their things and put them away. Perhaps this period of time could be to do a little chore or cleanup something that might be left from the night before.

8:20-8:45 - Free Play - Once the children are done with their unpacking (chores), they have about 20 minutes of free play.

8:45: Ring the Bell and clean - up. When the bell rings, the kids stop what they are doing and listen for instruction. They typically know that at this time of day, the instruction is to clean up and move to the carpet for circle time.

8:55-?: Circle Time - The timeframe for circle time changes depending on what is going on. We do prayer (I will post it below), the Months of the Year Song (can be found on the videos page), a count out of the number of days in that month so far, Days of the Week song ( we talk about what day it is and what day it will be tomorrow), go over the letter, rhyme, color, and shape (you can use the weekly presentation for this), and sing a few songs (I would do the Easter songs now).

9:15 ish : Center Play: Set up a few centers around the house, use a timer (generally 7 minutes per center), ring the bell when the timer goes off, and move to the next center. This might be helpful if you need to get some work done. During this time, I pull the children aside to work on a project or a skill, so you might like to break it up a little bit in between.

10:00: Clean up, bathroom, and wash hands

10:10: Snack

10:45: Story Time (You can use the daily read aloud I have posted). The first one is somewhat short, I will do some longer ones. I am limited to the books I have at home with me.

11:00-11:45 - Outside Recess

11:45: Look at books, sing some songs, or do another short activity

12:00: Bathroom, wash hands

12:10: Lunch

After Lunch - Bathroom and Rest Time

The activities after rest time always depend on how long children sleep, how many are awake, etc.

Morning Prayer:

Hold my hand, God, lead the way

Help me be good every day.

Let me know what's wrong and right,

keep me safe through the night.

Let me know what you have planned,

lead the way, God, hold my hand.
