FERPA

Protects the privacy of student education records
Schools may disclose, without consent, "directory" information such as a student's name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, honors and awards, and dates of attendance.
School officials with legitimate educational interest may be allowed access to student information. Assuming Each employee is professionally responsible and should not be viewing a record they have no need to view.
If a students parents have declined FERPA release on registration and the identity of the student could be found out please consult with administration before sharing information outside of the classroom.

COPPA

COPPA only applies to personal information collected online from children; it does not cover information collected from adults that may pertain to children.
The law recognizes that the school can consent on behalf of the parent to create accounts and enter personal information into the online system.

Data Walls
Student paperwork on teacher desk
Volunteers and mentors inside the classroom accessing student information
Paper on a public printer

After proper training staff members will complete FERPA Acknowledgment Form at the building based level- See below example

If guardian/parent wishes to change this they MUST complete a Release form and bring it to the school or Central Office
