FAQ

MacBook

1. Start with a Restart.
   • Properly disconnect anything you may have plugged into the computer.
   • Save files you may have open.
   • Go to the  > Restart...
   • Log in and relaunch the applications you were having trouble with.
2. If your device is frozen
   • Press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds and it will force the device to shut down.
3. Still not working properly? Try a system reset.
   • Shut down your Mac. Go to the  > Shut Down...
   • Press the power button.
   • Before the grey screen appears, press the Command ⌘, Option, P, and R keys at the same time.
   • Hold the keys until your computer restarts and you hear the startup sound a second time.
   • Release the keys.

iPad

1. Hard Restart
   • Hold down the home and on/off buttons at the same time.
   • Continue holding the buttons even after the slider appears on the screen. The screen will eventually go black.
   • When the Apple logo appears, let go of the buttons and let the iPad start up like normal.
2. Delete the app you are having a problem with and reinstall.

Chromebook

1. If you are able, shut down your device
   • At the bottom right, select the time. Select Power .
   • At the bottom right, select the time. Select Sign out Shut down.
   • Press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds.
   • Press and hold the Power button until you see a menu to Power off or Sign out.
2. If your device is frozen
   • Press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds and it will force the device to shut down.

Restart Chrome

1. Quit Chrome and reopen it. This will also update your Chrome browser, which is often the issue:
   • Windows: Press Ctrl + Q.
   • Mac: Press ⌘ + Q.
2. Try loading the page again.
   • Tip: You can reopen any tabs that were open before:
     • Windows: Press Ctrl + Shift + T.
     • Mac: Press ⌘ + Shift + T.

Try Opening the Link in another browser

To figure out whether this is a problem with the webpage or with Chrome, try opening the page in Safari. If it works in Safari, try uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome. There could be something wrong with your Chrome profile that's causing problems.

Close Other Tabs, Apps, and Extensions

Your computer may have run out of memory, and can't load the site while also running your apps, extensions, and programs.

To free up memory:

• Close every tab except for the one that’s showing the error message.
• Quit other apps or programs that are running.
• Pause any app or file downloads.
• Uninstall extensions you don't need. Learn how to uninstall extensions.

On the erroring tab, try reloading (↻)

Check your Saco School Department Bookmark folder as commonly accessed links have been added to this folder on all managed Chrome browsers.

• Ensure that you are logged into Chrome with your Saco School Department email address.
• Not seeing bookmarks? On the Chrome menu > View > Select 'Always Show Bookmark Bar'

Often sites will provide you with a link to click if you have forgotten your password, if so, we suggest clicking that link and going through the steps to either rest your password or have an email sent to you with instructions.

1. Check Self-Service: The district provides many pre-approved software applications via this tool.
   • Find the Self-Service app in your Applications folder (Finder > Go > Applications) , or just search for it using the Spotlight 🔍 tool.
   • Launch Self-Service, locate the software, and select Install.
   • Once the install has completed, the program will appear in the Applications folder.
2. App Store: In order to install an app from the Apple App Store, you will need an AppleID. The district does not manage nor provide AppleIDs, but you can choose to use your own or create a new one for use with school devices.
3. Software downloads directly from software developers can be downloaded directly to the MacBook using the Admin login and password that you have setup on your device. Please note that you should be cautious of downloading software to your device and should be certain about the reliability of the source before downloading software.
