If you would rather listen to a book then go visit Sora, our 24/7 E-Library, and listen to one of many audio ebooks. Several of Alan Gratz’s books are available either as audio or ebooks. When we showed this book trailer for Projeck 1065 earlier this year, it was checked out over and over again!
Here’s a video of Alan Gratz showing us his office where he writes. He also explains how he goes about writing his books. It’s pretty amazing and I got some good ideas just from watching this!
Kathleen is a huge Alan Gratz fan. She actually got to meet him this past Christmas vacation when she was home visiting her mom and dad. Alan Gratz lives in a town next to where her parents live. She ran into him at a local bookstore. He was nice enough to let her take a picture with him. Kathleen said, "She seriously almost fainted from excitement!!"
Kathleen went to Boston to see Neil Gaiman do an author talk. We have his The Graveyard Book in our library and he also wrote Coraline. Some of his best advice is there is no such thing as writers block...that is a term created by authors as an excuse. You just need to write. You will have good days and bad days when you are writing but any words on the page are better than no words on the page. In fact, you might find that when you go back and read them the next day they are not nearly as bad as you thought they were as you were writing them.
Check this book out from the Junior Library Guild! Here is a book talk about The Curse of the Dead-Eyed Doll. If you like scary/horror books you should try out this one!
Here is another Junior Library Guild book talk for now- The Only Living Girl Is the beginning of a new series of graphic novels- but it is also a spin-off from another series called the Only Living Boy.
