Science in 7th grade is taught through an inquiry based learning format. Students will be able to practice concepts learned in the classroom through hands on activities. We are looking forward to an inquisitive and exciting year.
Topics to cover include:
* Scientific method and metric system
* Cells and processes
* Human body and functions
* Genetics
* Astronomy
*Science Practices
We use the term “practices” instead of a term such as “skills” to emphasize that engaging in scientific investigation requires not only skill but also knowledge that is specific to each practice. (NRC Framework, 2012, p. 30)
The eight practices of science and engineering that the Framework identifies as essential for all students to learn and describes in detail are listed below:
Asking questions (for science) and defining problems (for engineering)
Developing and using models
Planning and carrying out investigations
Analyzing and interpreting data
Using mathematics and computational thinking
Constructing explanations (for science) and designing solutions (for engineering)
Engaging in argument from evidence
Obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information
