Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is awarded on the basis of satisfactory completion of units. Generally speaking, VCE is completed across Years 11 and 12. However, at St Anne’s College, students may have the opportunity to commence VCE Units 1 and 2 in Year 10. The availability of this option will be based on a student's demonstrated readiness to participate in VCE subjects through their results and work ethic in Year 9.
There are several advantages to completing a VCE Unit 1 and 2 in Year 10. These include:
Exposure to the VCE program in Year 10 and the building of student confidence and capacity
An added challenge for capable students and extension of their knowledge and skills
A 6th Unit 3 & 4 subject to contribute to the ATAR
Although it is possible to accelerate study in VCE there are a number of reasons why it is not in the best interests of all students to undertake accelerated study. In particular, a student could be disadvantaged if they experience difficulty studying an accelerated unit or concentrate solely on that subject, thereby undermining their overall Year 10 program.
It is very important that any students considering fast-tracking have read through the VCE Policies and Procedures documentation, to be aware of the requirements of VCE studies.
Students who decide to pursue a VCE Fast-Track or VET subject in Year 10 must submit an Application Form before the end of term, Friday 28th June. Following the submission of the application form, students will be required to participate in an interview to discuss their application. Parents are encouraged to attend this interview with their child.
