Mrs. Zummo, like her students, began her study of Spanish as a middle school student. She enjoyed learning the language and learning about the culture so much that it continued through high school. She was fascinated by the customs and culture of far off places. It was exciting to be able to speak in another language and communicate with native speakers. It opened up a whole new world.
Naturally, she continued to study and learn Spanish through college and when she came across the opportunity to study in a Spanish speaking country she jumped at the chance. She spent six months in Madrid, Spain living in the city and taking classes. It was an amazing experience. Fluency with the language and a love of children were the recipe for becoming a Spanish teacher.
Mrs. Zummo has been at Sachem for twenty years and is honored to serve as the World Language Chair for Sachem North HS, Seneca MS and Samoset MS. She has a nine year old son, a seven year old daughter and a four and a half year old at home. She is looking forward to an exciting year!
