At Sabot School, we foster an environment where children are passionate about reading. Even beyond the classroom, children engage in discussions, offer book critiques, show enthusiasm for reading with their peers, and find inspiration in great books.

Grades 5-8 Summer Reading Assignments
Grades 5-6
The school has given your child a copy of the assigned summer reading book, We’re Not From Here by Geoff Rodkey. 6th graders will read this book over the summer, and we will begin our year by discussing it when school resumes. We ask each child to annotate their book in order to “tune in” to their reading. Specific instructions are in their reading log and in Google Classroom (under the “5th grade” class). There is a graphic organizer attached to this email, which you can print, and a digital copy available for your child in classroom. If you are joining the 6th grade this year, and your child would like a digital copy, email mwilson@sabotschool.org, and I will set that up for your child.
The book is your child’s to keep, so they may write in it with pens or pencils. Marking passages with sticky notes is also an easy way to annotate a book. This book is available on Learning Ally, so if your child uses Learning Ally, they can access the book there.
