Young Writers Creative Writing Contest Winners 2026

Sabine Middle School students participated in a national writing contest. We have forthy-eight students who were selected to be published!

My Life

I grew up in Andrews, TX, and I graduated with my B.A. in English from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, TX. I have been in East Texas since 2009, and I'm still excited about all the trees in this area. This is my 32nd year to teach RLA.

My husband and I have 3 boys, three grandchildren, and two rescue dogs. We love to be outdoors. We enjoy camping, hiking, snowshoeing, kayaking, and mountain biking. We especially like hiking to waterfalls. We love visiting state and national parks.

I have been teaching RLA since 1994. I have experience in 4th-12th grades, and I have been teaching in Sabine since 2010. It's the best place I've ever worked!

A cool fact:

My husband and I met award-winning Christian singer/songwriter Matthew West, and he autographed two of his books for us. We are also friends with Matthew's dad, the chaplain for all of Matthew's concerts.
