Major Assignment: Using Social Media to Teach Vocabulary

“Academic Writing and Social Media''

Brief Description:

This lesson plan deals with Teaching Vocabulary through the use of Twitter, the Conversation newssite and Moodle as tools for students to become more familiar with the target word/phrases relevant to the topic of the unit. This lesson is addressing a specific area of vocabulary related to corroboration in academic writing.

Week 3:

Major Assignment: Grammar Teaching Materials Development.

Title:

Expressing Certainty and Possibility with Modals

Brief Description:

Learning outcomes of the lesson: Identify the difference between may-might-must-could-can’t to express certainty and possibility; Speak and write about personal experiences using modals of certainty and possibility; to familiarize with COCA for exploring grammatical structures.

Week 4:

Major Assignment: Analyzing Reading Texts.

Title:

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Readability Results.

The following is a report on the readability results derived from two online tools for the literary work Huckleberry Finn: WebFX Readability and the Readability Analyzer. The report explains the importance of considering learner needs before selecting any text for a reading activity.

Week 5:

Major Assignment: Collaborative Writing.

Title:

A letter of appreciation to the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs

The aim of this collaborative assignment was to write an appreciation letter to the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs using Google Docs as a tool. Participants were assigned with different roles, we suggested ideas, planned the layout and content, checked and revised details for the final. This is a report on my writing experience after this collaborative project.

Week 6:

Major Assignment: Listening Lesson Plan Project

Title:

How the Internet is Changing Our Brains

Brief Description:

Learning Goal for the Listening Unit: To help learners practice note-taking skills & identify main Ideas & details. This lesson is mostly focused on top-down listening skills to practice note-taking and understanding main ideas. It is followed by a homework assignment which is aimed at carrying out research on the negative impacts of the Internet on the ‘’individuals’’ and ‘’society’’, and prepare an infographic about this topic in groups of 3-4.

Week 7:

Major Assignment: Creating a Speaking Activity for Large Classes

Title:

Unexpected encounters:Practicing the Present Perfect and Past Tense

Brief Description:

Using tools like Youglish for pronunciation, AE digital book ''Dialogues for Everday day Use'' and Camtasia to engage learners in a speaking activity focused on fluency and accuracy skills through the topic of an unexpected encounter with an old friend.
