T3 | September Recap 2022

Beginning a new term...

Lord, as we prepare for the coming of a new term, make us ready, attentive and available to hear you.

Thank You for the gift of being able to rise each day with the assurance that You walk through it with us.

Thank You for the gifts we are blessed with, and the energy to put them to good use.

May all that we are today, all that we try to do today, may all our encounters, reflections, even the frustrations and failings be guided by You.

May the work we do and the way we do it, bring new hope, new life, and courage to all we come in contact with this for this final term of learning.

We thank you, Lord.

Amen

Welcome back to Term 4!

This edition of the newsletter has given me a chance to reflect on what a fabulous end to Term 3 we had, as well as a chance to look forward to all that lies ahead for us in 2022.

You will find many fabulous bits of news in this newsletter. We finished Term 3 with our bi-annual Art Expo and what an amazing expo it was. Our students showcased so many skills and talents within their art pieces and I felt extremely proud as I walked around the Expo. We always welcome feedback to continue to improve on these events so don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any suggestions for next time!

As I look over all the photos from this newsletter it really strikes me that we are back! Connecting back with the local community and getting out and about was definitely a theme for Term 3.  Our students were able to visit The Little Cupcake Shop, the Art Gallery, Damascus, Woowookarung National Park as well as other local schools for Inter-school sport. These were the things we've really missed over the last couple of years and it's great to see them happening again.

We have so many wonderful things coming up in Term 4, including our Sports Day, Japan Day and our Christmas Fest. We also have our celebration of the Sacrament of Eucharist in Week 3, which will cap off a busy year for our Sacramental program. I am also excited to welcome our 2023 Foundation cohort in for their transition days in November. It's always wonderful to see new (and some old and familiar) faces join our community.

I hope all our families have managed a good rest these holidays and all our students are ready for some better weather and a great last term ahead.

Warm regards,

Emily

News & LEARNING from our learning communities.

As learners, we are COLLABORATIVE | REFLECTIVE | PERSISTENT | CREATIVE & INQUISITIVE.

Congratulations to the students of St Alipius Parish who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Wednesday 7th September. Thank you to the 3/4 Learning Community and Jason Spark (Leader in Religious Education) for preparing our students for this important milestone in their faith journey.

Celebrating the special men in our community.

FRIDAY 2nd September, 2022.

What a wonderful day celebrating the special men in our community!

We shared a beautiful liturgy together and then walked back to school for a sausage in bread.

A huge thank you to our helpers who cooked the bbq and served a huge number of people. It was great to see so many people turn up for lunch.

PEACEFUL KIDS program

The ever-popular Peaceful Kids program operates throughout our school from Foundation to Year 6 on a weekly basis, led by Suzie (Wellbeing Learning Support Officer).

The 'Peaceful Kids' program makes a great contribution to helping children to develop mindfulness skills early in life - skills that will stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives.  It is practical and systematic and can help children to understand themselves better and to develop ways to not only just survive in the modern world, but to thrive in it'

Foundation LC

On Thursday September 8th students in the Foundation Learning Community put on their walking shoes and went to The Little Cupcake Shop, Ballarat East.

Communication has been a big focus in Foundation with asking and answering questions being our main focus. This outing helped us to celebrate our learning by putting our skills into practice in a real-life situation.

Everyone did a fantastic job with 3 very proud teachers of our Foundation students; using beautiful manners and speaking so clearly. We enjoyed a delicious treat together back at school for morning tea.

Year Three / Four LC

Meeting Mia the therapy dog!

Thank you to Pip and Olivia Wynne for introducing Mia to us and for explaining the wonderful work she does as a therapy dog.

Year One / Two LC

Visiting Eureka Park to experience the wonder and awe of nature and our local surroundings.

Foundation LC

We learnt about the use of rulers as a form of measurement. Our task was to build a catapult. In small groups, we each had to fling a pom pom and then measure how far it went using our rulers. We needed to be able to read the ruler to identify how far our pom pom went and recorded it down on a sticky note to order the distance achieved by each team member.

There were great discussions happening in our small groups that addressed:

~ how to read rulers~ adding the lengths together (if multiple rulers were used)~ how to write and record our measurements correctly.

Year Three / Four LC

Check out the faces of the amazing artists in 3/4! They have shown such persistence, collaboration and creativity during art this year.

See if you can spot someone you know!

Interschool Sports

St Alipius & Lumen Christi

Friday WEEK 9, Term 3. | YEAR 5 & 6

Sports included netball, basketball, football, soccer and indoor games.

Through the interschool sport program, consisting of Ballarat Catholic primary schools, students experience opportunities to represent their school across a wide range of team sports. The interschool sports program supports us to maximise opportunities for all students to play sports and to build connections with others in the local Ballarat area prior to transitioning into high school.

As the St Alipius community, we thank all of the Ballarat Catholic primary schools who were involved this year and extend a special thanks to the schools who hosted us during this time.

Year Five LC joined by classes from F-6

EXPRESS YOURSELF is a program of contemporary music making and performance. The program focuses on lyric creation, songwriting and personal expression culminating in musical performance.

Each workshop commences with a dynamic Hip Hop performance featuring touring MC and DJ artists.

It has been wonderful to explore the various ways we can creatively express ourselves through the world of language & music.

Years Three to Six

The Australian Maths Competition is hosted by the Australian Maths Trust every year in August. This year we had the most participants representing St Alipius that we've ever had before and we are incredibly proud of their efforts and results.
