MAJOR SCHOLARSHIPS
Overview:
The following scholarships are national or provincial in scope. They are significant ($5,000 or greater) scholarships, some of them ‘full ride’ (covering the entire cost of a certificate, diploma, or four-year degree. Some of these scholarships also cover the cost of Trades training).
Each of these scholarships has specific criteria, so read the application information carefully. Be aware that these scholarships typically weigh both academic accomplishments and either community & public service; demonstrated commitment to helping others; initiative-building (eg., starting an service organization in your community); volunteerism; and/or demonstration of creative thinking; entrepreneurship, leadership, etc. Some also factor in demonstrated financial need.
Loran Scholars
- includes an annual stipend of $12,000, a tuition waiver of up to $12,000 and a summer experiential learning program of up to $14,000.
- available to graduating high school students with a minimum average of 85% and have Canadian citizenship or Permanent Resident status
- for young Canadians who show strength of character and a commitment to service in their communities, challening them to fully realize their leadership potential

- valued at $10,000 towards tuition and $5,000 towards living expenses, includes summer employment at TD
- available to First Nation, Metis and Inuit students who have applied to a minimum 2 year program

BEEDIE LUMINARIES
- Provides up to $11,000/yr. for B.C. students taking trades, certificate/diploma programs, or four-year degrees.

Criteria: demonstrated financial need; GPA of 75% minimum; demonstrated community/school service; adversity or challenge that would make it difficult or impossible for you to access post-secondary education independently; wrap-around academic & general support provided through Mentors.

THE CMOLIK FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
- annually provides 20 scholarships worth up to $45,000 to B.C. students pursuing a 4-year post-secondary education
- adversity and financial hardship are factored into the decision-making process
- this scholarship is open to any students who have lived in Canada 7 years or longer
- you must be nominated by your school to apply. The nomination process takes place in December.

SCHULICH LEADERS SCHOLARSHIP
- Provides $100,000 to $120,000 for students across Canada who plan to major in science, technology, engineering, or math
- Student applicants are nominated by their school and are typically the highest academically-ranked student in the school in STEM subjects
- Rigorous application process requires strong references and an interview
- Winning applicants must apply to one of the 20 Schulich Leadership universities in Canada (the list includes University of Victoria, UBC, and SFU)
- you must be nominated by your school to apply. The nomination process takes place in December.

B.C. EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP
- $5,000 awarded each year by the Ministry of Education to 55 graduating students across the province
- school nomination is required
- nominees must have good academic standing and a track record of community service, volunteerism, and leadership
- you must be nominated by your school to apply. The nomination process takes place in December.

OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS
B.C. ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP
This is an automatic award worth $1250 which is given to the top 8000 grade 12 students in the province, based solely on academic achievement for grades 10 through 12. Students are informed that they are recipients in November after graduation.
PATHWAY TO TEACHER EDUCATION
The Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship is given to 20 exceptional high school graduates who have shown dedication and skill for a career in K-12 teaching. This scholarship is worth $5,000 from the Ministry of Education and Child Care which can be reimbursed for tuition paid after attending an approved teacher education program.
DISTRICT AUTHORITY SCHOLARSHIPS - SD63 Scholarship Application Form
40 Parkland students @ $1,250, for post-secondary tuition.
Recognizes graduating BC students for excellence in their chosen area of interest or strength. Students may apply for more than one category but can only receive one award.
● Applied Design, Skills and Technologies (business; home ec/textiles; info tech)
● Community Service (volunteerism & external service)
● Fine Arts (visual art, dance drama, music)
● Indigenous Languages and Culture
● Languages (in-school and external)
● Physical Activity (sports/athletics, dance, gymnastics)
● Technical and Trades Training (auto; robotics; woodwork; coding; culinary arts)
Application is part of the Parkland and District Scholarship process in the spring.

Dick Brouwer Automotive Award - $1,500, attending an automotive trades program in September
Doug Menzies Community Service Award - $500, doesn’t need to be attending post-secondary in September, community service
Mike Fretwell Memorial Scholarship - $500, attending any post-secondary program in September, leadership in environmental issues and social responsibility
Rotary Club of Sidney by the Sea Bursary - $1,250, renewable for two years, attending any post-secondary program in September, financial need, student must be nominated to apply
Rotary Club of Sidney by the Sea Scholarship - $1,250, attending any post-secondary program in September, strong academics and service
Saanich Teachers’ Association Scholarship - $1,000, attending any post-secondary within 3 years, demonstrated leadership
United Peninsula Lodge AF & AM #24 - 2 @ $1,500 each, attending any post-secondary program in September, hardworking reliable student not receiving any major scholarships or a top performer
Western Community Foundations Inspiration Award - $750, attending any post-secondary program in September, overcoming adversity, student must be nominated to apply
SD63 SCHOLARSHIPS/BURSARIES: - SD63 Scholarship Application Form
Canadian Federation of University Women Scholarship - $1,200 for a female-identifying Parkland Student, attend any post-secondary program in September, academics and financial need
Dianne Cross Award for the Arts - $750 for a SD 63 student, for study in the arts
District Education Scholarship - 2 x $500
- for a student who plans to enter a teaching career
- Excellence in academics and community/extra-curricular service
- Participation in a teaching-related volunteer experience such as peer tutoring, camp leader/supervisor, etc. is strongly encouraged
Forrest Owens Memorial Scholarship - $1,400 for SD 63 student residing in Central Saanich, further education in firefighting, fire safety, medical/first responder, emergency management, public service or construction
Jan Heinrichs Memorial Scholarship - $500 for SD 63 student, attending post-secondary in September who participated in a school-based music or drama program
Joy Paquin Memorial Scholarship - $1,000 for a SD 63 student, attending post-secondary in September with plans to enter teaching
Lobstick Foundation Trades Bursary - 2@ $1,000 for female SD 63 student, one for entering health care/nursing, one for entering trades
Lockwood Family foundation Scholarship - $1000 for a graduating student pursuing further education/training in Trades/Construction. Acknowledges a student who has faced financial hardship and commitment to continue their education.
Mosaic Forest Management Scholarship - $500 for Indigenous SD 63 student, attending a post-secondary program in forestry, fisheries or other natural resource management in September
Marilyn Pinder Legacy Scholarship - 2@ $500 for SD 63 student, attending post-secondary in September and learning a second language
Saanich Fruit Grower’s Scholarship - $1,000 for a Parkland student, attending a post-secondary program in agriculture, horticulture or land use in September
