The current standing will be updated periodically as we move throughout the season.
Grade 6/7
There will be 4 teams playing in one lunch period. It will be clear on the schedule which teams are playing first. Even if you are playing second, please come down to the gym early to be ready. You never know how fast the first game will end in dodgeball.
Each team will get to play two games. Games will have a time limit of 4-minutes each.
Grade 8
There will be 2 teams playing each other each lunch period.
There will be 4 games with a time limit of 4-minutes each.
4 games will be played regardless of the outcome of the first two, since teams can earn a point per win.
You can win and earn a point for your team in two ways:
1 . Eliminating every player from the other team.
2. Having the most players still on the court when the time runs out.
1 point for a win per game.
1 point for meeting the team requirements.
1 bonus point for a team showing sportsmanship, team spirit, ect. (At the discretion of the adults and referees).
Actions that might cause a loss of sportsmanship/ spirit point include: not going out when you got hit, not sitting on the bench in the correct order, arguing with a referee, inappropriate cheering, unkind comments toward other players on either team, etc.
Grade 6/7 - Teams will play as many other teams as possible throughout the season round robin style. The top 4 teams at the end of the round robin with be placed into a final four bracket. The semi final, and final games, will be a best of 3 during a lunch period. Each game will have a time limit increase to 5 min.
Grade 8 - Teams will play other teams, round robin style. The top 4 teams at the end of the round robin with be placed into a final four bracket. The semi final, and final games, will be a best of 3 during a lunch period. Each game will have a time limit increase to 5 min.
Grade 6/7
Need a minimum of 12 players to play and earn the point for showing up. If you are not able to meet these requirements, you can still play and get a sportsmanship point but forfeit all other points.
You can play with more that 12.
The more that show up, the more you will start with on the court.
Grade 8
Must show up with at least 6 players to get the point for showing up.
You may have a max of 8 on your team.
Regardless of how many you show up with, 6 will start on the court.
Eliminate all players on the other team before they eliminate you.
Players line up behind the red line.
Dodgeballs will be placed on the center line on cones.
When the whistle blows, teams can grab a ball.
Before you can throw, you must touch the ball to the back wall.
Players can only be in possession of one ball.
You can get eliminated in four main ways (referees have the final call if another way is discovered).
If you get hit with the ball shoulders down.
The other team catches a ball you have thrown.
Attempting to catch a ball and dropping it.
Kicking a dodgeball with intention.
Once you have been eliminated grab a seat on the bench on the order you were eliminated.
Once the ball has hit the wall or ground, that ball is dead meaning if it hits you it does not count.
If a player on your team catches a ball thrown by the other team, the person at the front of the bench may come back in the game.
Players must return to the game in the order they were eliminated. (This is why sitting in the right order is very important when you get out)
As soon as you step back into the game you are able to get eliminated again.
The boundary for the game are the black basketball court lines for the sides and center line and the back red line of the volleyball court. There will be large orange cones representing where the back line is.
You may only throw the ball at the other team while you are within your half of the court.
You may leave the boundary to retrieve a ball. BUT, you can still get hit.
If a player steps on or over the center line, that player is out and the person at the front of the bench from the other team may come back in the game.
