Anesthesia Rotation Study Guide
Created by Members of the ICOM AIG in Collaboration with Dr. Joe Coyle, Adjunct Professor of Anesthesiology
Created by Members of the ICOM AIG in Collaboration with Dr. Joe Coyle, Adjunct Professor of Anesthesiology
Purpose of the Study Guide: This guide is provided for all active members of the ICOM AIG to help prepare them for their rotations in Anesthesiology and to inform them during those rotations as questions arise. It gives ICOM AIG members the opportunity to develop an educational module in collaboration with Dr. Coyle and learn about the process of developing clinical learning materials to prepare them for that role in the future.
Process for Module Development: Fourteen initial modules that are listed below will be developed in the 2025-2026 academic year. Student(s) that signed up for a given module will arrange a time to meet with Dr. Coyle to begin planning, setting up objectives, completing a module Word document with links to relevant videos and references, and developing an assessment of NBOME style multiple choice questions. To finalize the module the student(s) will meet with Dr. Coyle to record the lecture in Panopto together. The first 20 modules will correlate with Morgan & Mikhail’s Clinical Anesthesiology, 7Ed, which is available through the ICOM library. It is anticipated that most of module development will take place during periods of lower demand for ICOM students, so as not to interfere with the heavy requirements of OMS I and OMS II students.
Maintenance of the Study Guide: The Study Guide will be maintained in the Google Drive set up by the AIG for this purpose. Once a module is completed each will be released on the Anesthesia Rotation Study Guide Google Drive with a separate folder for all members of the ICOM AIG to access.
