Introduction

~In the 21st century, almost everyone has a mobile phone. Whatever the elderly, teenagers or children, they have the habit of using electronic products including iPads, mobile phones or computers. They get information from these devices. Therefore, more applications have been created for different needs, such as traveling, paying, advertisement and so on. Moreover, fast food culture is very popular nowadays. People want to learn and get information efficiently. Mobile apps are launched to meet their needs.

~This portfolio introduces an effective way to learn new language by using mobile language learning apps. They are offered by iOS and Android, and you can download them from the app store. The apps can provide a convenient and funny way to learning different languages including English, Chinese or even other languages. This portfolio will take learning Korean as an example. Hope you enjoy learning languages through mobile apps!

Learning apps : LingoDeer

~LingoDeer is a multi-language learning app. It aims to teach languages in grammar-based curriculum. Learners can learn a new language from easy to difficult, from reading to speaking, from daily to specific issues. LingoDeer provides a platform that learners from different countries can easily use it.

Video one & two

~ For the beginners, the first lesson must be Alphabet. LingoDeer gives a clear guide for learning them. It is divided into vowels, client constant and constants (see video one). There sre pronunciations, essay writing and quizzes for deeper understanding. The most attractive thing is that there are different question types for the quizzes, such as pairing and selection, which will enhance the interest of learning.

~ After learning the alphabet, there are different topics, such as Nationalities, colors, locations for daily life (see video two). Also, there are grammar topics for example, phrases, questions and informal polite expression which provide comprehensive learning experience.

Video three & four

~ Take the chapter of nationalities as an example. In every task, there is one lesson for basic learning, one lesson for reinforcing and story for practicing (see video three). In every lesson, there are pronunciation and quizzes for practice. Learners can get more information of the difficult word by pressing them in a sentence. After doing the quizzes for testing the understanding, you may get a report for reviewing (see video four and picture).

Self-reflection

LingoDeer enhances my interest in learning Korean. The interesting learning experience attracts me to learn. Also, I can learn Korean in a few minutes to kill time, I can easily learn the language anywhere and anytime which is different from the traditional way of learning. After I have read some texts in Korean script, I can do some easy conversations with my Korean friends.

Furthermore, every lesson of LingoDeer is broken down into different topics which makes me really understand the topic and learn Korean comprehensively. I enjoy using it very much, I usually complete 2-3 lessons every week. I will check my learning outcome and review my learning progress every Sunday. It really encourages me to persist my learning and improve my Korean in a great way. I have learned more expressions which increase the quantity of my vocabulary bank of Korean.

Lastly, in my opinion, technology-enhanced language learning will be more popular in the future. Most of the schools carry out e-learning such as using iPads and using Google classroom. This format can also use for learning languages, learners only need to install one app and they can easily learn language without searching for teachers and attending classes. It is highly efficient and convenient which should be adopted by language learners. They can even learn more than one language in the app— LingoDeer, which is clear and easy to follow. Please try to use LingoDeer to learn any language, and you will develop a special and novel learning experience.
