My result from the Research Typology activity was analytical scientist. An analytical scientist is someone who prefers exactness, precision and unambiguous situations. This describes me because in some ways I am a perfectionist, I like things to be as precise and as accurate as they can be. In this type of thinking science is exact and the variables are controlled, which makes an ideal experiment. The survey asked me to rate the following statements on a scale of one to four, from disagree totally to agree totally. I selected four for the following statements:
"To truly understand the AIDS epidemic, one must ascertain the truth about AIDS. A researcher must look at the data, make recommendations for further study based on these findings, and not base conclusions on information obtained through subjective means or anecdotal stories that rely too heavily on his or her personal feelings"
"To deal with environmental problems, one should look at the methods available and determine the most practical way to solve these problems now and not spend the time on some vague plan in the unspecified future."
An analytical scientist prefers research methods such as experimental research, semiology, and trend analysis research. The research methods I prefer are similar to those of an analytical scientist like experimental research and trend analysis research. However, some of the other research methods appeal to me as well, such as, case study research and a needs assessment. Case study research appeals to me because I would like to know the cause of situations. I feel like knowing what caused a issue or problem will help me better come up with a solution. A needs assessment is also appealing because I want my solution to help address needs of a population. Although, my research typology was analytical scientist I am open to exploring other research methods that will work for me as well.
