This examination of dystopian literature from the perspective of women's oppression will impact the way that women's history expressed in fiction literature is understood. After evaluating a timeline of five different books, ranging from 1850 to 2012, and quantifying the connotations of words directly describing female characters, comparisons will be made to determine the role that historical situation plays and how much the historical/political climate of the time period is represented in the novel.
