Who Am I?
My name is Navid Makooi and I am currently (, as of 2026,) a senior at Rock Canyon High School in Highlands Ranch, CO. In my last year as a high school student, my decision to study the correlation between sports and crime has been a culmination of interests formed into a project. After taking the AP Seminar course in my junior year, my notice came to land on a topic between what seemed to be constant occurences of violence following sports games across America. As part of an assignment, I was tasked with conducting preliminary research to learn more about the issue to have it as a potential focus of a group project for the course. While my group did not choose the topic, I choose to revisit it after enrolling into AP Research the following school year. Moreover, the choice was a combination of two interests of mine. Being a sports fan for American professional sports (such as the NFL) along with having an interest in the field of law, I decided it would be intriguing to study the possible relationship between the two subjects.
As a student, I am actively involved in my community through a multitude of ways. To begin, I particpate and lead in school clubs such as National Honor Society, UNICEF, Link Crew and Unified. I am also a member of organizations such as Lone Tree Teen Court and Happy Crew which have provided me with indispensible experience on how to lead and get involved in my community. Outside of school, I like to go to the gym, play video games, and hang out with all my friends.
In the future, I plan on attending a four-year university and studying political science to drive my interest in law. After achieving my undergraduate degree, I hope to attend law school and gain my law degree to become a sports lawyer, representing players and organizations across professional sports.
