Movies are one of the most popular forms of art in today's world, and they are responsible for shaping parts of our culture around the globe. Good films offer important insight into different parts of life. However, with such widespread popularity and influence, the film industry is a money-making machine. While filmmakers should be rewarded for their artwork, some people believe that moviemakers abuse their outreach by making movies solely to make money rather than add creative insight.
Furthermore, I will be conducting research on the modern film industry by comparing a director who has been commercially successful with his movies and then a director who has been artistically successful among film critics. To do this I am applying Structuralist Film Theory, which is the theory that all movies have a basic structure that they follow. I will be using this theory to assess how "structural" each movie is from each director and comparing each movies creativeness that adverts away from structuralism.
