This document is dedicated to gaining knowledge about animals that are in and around Colorado. This is important to my Capstone for several reasons. First, it is expanding my knowledge and enjoyment of my project. Keeping myself motivated and enjoying this project is crucial to my Capstone. Second, in the future, I want to be able to answer questions from people. I don't want to be someone who goes "that's a good question. I don't know." I think providing knowledge is an amazing way to spark joy and interest in people. Third, you never know when certain information may be important. Knowing what is around you and being prepared for it is just a good way to live and thrive.
An important part of working in the park services is knowing first aid and wilderness first aid in case of emergencies. This is a work in progress journey of me learning about First Aid. I find it useful to write down things I believe are important as it helps me remember it and gives me something I can look back upon.
I decided that it would be beneficial to have a separate website for my final product. That way it can be more accessible to people outside of school looking at my Portfolio. I doubt people would want to go through my portfolio to find information. I think having another website is the best way to reach an audience.
I was hesitant to start making these brochures because of Covid but I decided that I could also use them online so that it would be beneficial to have whether Covid was affecting us or not. This brochure was made because of my essay. I had a lot I wanted to share that I believe is important that I figured I could share it a different way. If you go onto my website my brochures are presented under 'safety' and include black and white versions as well as transcripts for all of the brochures I made.
This one has the exact same information as the colored version but it was pointed out to me that having Black & White versions to print out would also be beneficial.
I made this as a way to show off the Grand Canyon. On my website, I am highlighting some of the most popular parks and making separate pages for them and I wanted to have something that you could get information from but also is overview of the park itself. I did not make a Black & White version of this because unlike brochures these wouldn't just be handed out, so I didn't think it was necessary. Once again there is a transcript of this poster on my website on the "grand canyon" page.
Yellowstone is another park that I am highlighting on my website, so I made an introduction poster for it. I want all of my posters to give the viewer the feel of the park and I think I accomplished that by depicting the park with photos, art, and text in a visually appealing way. And on the "Yellowstone" page of my website, there is a transcript of this poster.
First aid is an essential part of life for wherever you are. I thought it would be beneficial to have a brochure with suggestions on what should be in your first aid kit. I made sure to talk about some general items and items that would be beneficial to the specific person reading it. There is transcript of this on the "brochure" page of my website.
This has all of the information that the colored version has. It has just been modified to be able to print in Black & White. I think that it is important to include these black and white versions in my evidence because despite what it might appear making these took some effort to make sure to formate things correctly and on the elements changing the colors to greyscale and or finding new elements.
A little poster I made because when I was in The Grand Canyon I watched a kid go up to a wild squirrel at literally started petting it. Not only did the squirrel look slightly disseised but the kid didn't see anything wrong with what he was doing. So I wanted to make some things to focus on squirrels.
This is the writing for my website. Weebly doesn't offer a good spell or grammar check so I thought that it would be best for me to write things out first and then add them to my website. It also allows me to see how much work I have put into this website. Before I did this I didn't think I had a whole lot of writing in my website but as of 3/3/21 this document is 5 pages long. It's a good way for me to quantify my work and the progress I've made.
I am still collecting responses so this is still an ongoing project and is not yet complete. So far the information I have received from the works of the parks I have contacted has been very meaningful and has been a great insight of the career segment of my project.
I made a questionnaire that I sent out to Castlewood Canyon State Park, Cherry Creek Park, Roxborough Park, Chatfield Park, Great Sand Dunes National Park, and Mesa Verde National Park. I thought that having first-hand experience and information would be useful for my project. Not only will it lend me some more guidance with my projects but it will also help me prepare for working in the parks.
A research project of the environment of some of our neighboring states. A quick project to get valuable information under my belt. While this might not immediately seem important, I've been stockpiling information I think relates to my project and this happens to be one.
I decided that it would be most efficient if I used other school projects as a way to expand my Capstone project. I did animals that I might encounter and was able to learn about a potentially dangerous animal I wasn't aware of before (the bark scorpion).
