Seniors must have all requirements completed and community service hours entered into Helper Helper by April 1 in order to receive their honor stole (no exceptions). Juniors must have all requirements completed and community service hours entered into Helper Helper by May 1 to be eligible for NHS senior year. Our community service calendar year runs from May 1 to April 30 of the next year.
You are responsible for ensuring that your requirements and hours have been entered correctly into Helper Helper and the Requirements Spreadsheet.
Every member must complete the following by our September meeting or you will be placed on probation* until they are completed.
Signed NHS Contract (turn in to Miss Essner or Mrs. Yearous)
Pay $30 fee on myschoolbucks (NHS Club Fee)
Seniors only must complete and turn in a Leadership Form before April 1.
NHS requires 20 hours of community service each year (May 1 through April 30 of the next year), including two hours of tutoring. All community service hours must be entered using the Helper Helper app. Opportunities will be communicated through Helper Helper, Remind, email, or at our monthly meetings. 10 of the 20 hours must be NHS sponsored hours or "inside hours." Community service opportunities that are sponsored by NHS will be labeled as "Inside hours" in Helper Helper. The remaining 10 hours can be of your choosing, but you need to enter them in Helper Helper as a past opportunity (see an officer if you need help with this). You are responsible for entering your hours into Helper Helper and for ensuring that you have all of your hours accounted for in Helper Helper.
When you sign up for a community service opportunity in Helper Helper, you will have up to 24 hours before the event to cancel. After 24 hours, we expect you to honor your commitment. If you need to cancel within 24 hours, you must find a replacement or communicate with an advisor or an officer ahead of time to explain why you can't make it. If you miss 2 community service commitments with no explanation you will be placed on probation.*

One of our main service projects is tutoring. Each member is required to complete two hours of tutoring during the year (May 1-April 30). NHS provides peer tutoring during most Access periods. We also have teachers who request tutoring after school and opportunities to tutor at Cresthill after school. All tutoring opportunities are listed in Helper Helper. Seniors must have their tutoring requirement completed by April 1. You are responsible for signing up for tutoring in Helper Helper and for ensuring that your tutoring credit has been accounted for in Helper Helper, and that your tutoring requirement has been entered into the Requirements Spreadsheet.
Each member is required to attend one social per semester (two per school year). We will try to offer at least one social per month. Please wear your NHS shirt (unless it is a theme day for a game). Socials will be announced during the meetings, posted on Instagram @hrhs_nhs, or sent out via Remind. Make sure to sign an attendance sheet (if available) or text/email an officer your picture when you attend a social. You are responsible for ensuring that your Social attendance has been entered into the Requirements Spreadsheet.
Seniors are required to submit a Leadership Form by April 1, but it does not have to be specifically within NHS. Some examples of leadership include: being an officer of a student club, being a captain for a sports team, or helping run an NHS social. You can also submit something from outside of school. If you are unsure if something will count, feel free to reach out to an officer. You must fill out and submit a Leadership Form to Miss Essner or Mrs. Yearous BEFORE April 1 to receive your honor stole for graduation. You are responsible for ensuring that your leadership credit has been entered into the Requirements Spreadsheet.
All NHS members must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher. If your cumulative GPA falls below 3.75, you will be put on probation.* After one semester, if your cumulative GPA is still below 3.75, you will be removed from NHS. If you have any extenuating circumstances regarding your GPA, please speak to Miss Essner or Mrs. Yearous.
Mandatory meetings typically occur the second Monday and Tuesday of each month (you may attend either meeting). Meetings are on Mondays from 2:45 - 3:00 pm and Tuesdays from 7:15 - 7:30 am in the library conference room. Meetings will begin promptly so please arrive ON TIME. You are allowed to miss up to 2 meetings. If you miss 3 meetings with no explanation you will be placed on probation.* If you have to miss a meeting, you must communicate with Miss Essner or Mrs. Yearous to explain your absence (i.e. you were sick and did not attend school, you had a sports commitment, you had to go out of town, etc.). If you miss a meeting without communicating the reason, you may be put on probation or removed from NHS.

If you have a financial hardship, you must communicate with Miss Essner or Mrs. Yearous to discuss the issue.
If you are placed on probation because you have missed more than 2 meetings or failed to show up for a community service opportunity 2 times, you will not be allowed to attend meetings, socials, or volunteer until you have communicated with Miss Essner or Mrs. Yearous. If you have reasonable reasons for missing, you will be removed from probation. If you do not communicate, you will risk being removed from NHS.
If you are placed on probation because your cumulative GPA falls below a 3.75, you will have a one semester grace period to bring your cumulative GPA back up to 3.75 or higher.
