Hi! My name is Rebecca Grapp, and I am a senior at Rock Canyon High School. In my last year, as senior class president, in honors societies, and looking ahead to a future at Colorado State University studying psychology, I truly wanted to do a project I would enjoy and that could open the right doors for my future.
I have always loved reading, especially when I was younger. I still read now, but when I was younger, I could finish a series in a sitting, and I always wanted to read and learn more. Now that I am older, I absolutely love working with children, and after spending countless hours volunteering with them, I came to understand that, while they may always say what they think, they are often unheard and left unrepresented. These two meshed together after I was explaining to a friend why I stopped reading fiction and now read only nonfiction, as I understood that I read what I read to understand people's experiences that I otherwise could not have even begun to understand, and started wondering if the same could apply to other things. When I realized there was a way I could combine my yearning to understand other people and advocate for the representation of all kids, that is where I truly developed a project I was passionate about.
