My name is Daniel Grammer. I am a senior and current AP Research student at Rock Canyon High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
I really enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and biking, gardening, running, and martial arts. My largest passion is for science, particularly in the field of Cellular and Molecular Biology.
In college and beyond, I hope to study multiple disciplines of biology in a research environment. My eventual career goal is currently targeted cancer therapy R&D.
My Research Background
I became interested in the field of Biology during my freshman year Honors Biology class, taught by my AP Research teacher Mrs. Dobos. After that, I went into Rock Canyon's Biotechnology program. I have completed Introduction to Biotechnology and Experimental Design, and am currently a CTE Biotechnology Capstone student. In my Experimental Design class, my team and I explored the effects of Diphenhydramine on C. elegans modified to express Alzheimer’s Disease traits. I also obtained by BACE certification in junior year, qualifying me for industry Biotechnician Assistant positions. In addition to this expertise, I have taken/am taking AP Biology and AP Chemistry. Since 8th grade, my goal has been to eventually work up to cancer research. I am specifically interested in the small, exploitable discrepancies in normal cell processing that occur in cancer cells due to the genetic mutations that cause the characteristic accelerated cell cycle in such cells. This is what my research this year is about.
