About the Research
The Salvia genus has demonstrated promising effects in the world of wound healing. Salvia officinalis has been found to have important antimicrobial and antioxidant effects that could improve wound healing. I will be using the model organism Planaria. Planaria are a type of flatworm that regenerate on their own, through a process called binary fission, either from a minor injury or from complete decapitation; this model organism has been used in a mass of regenerative research. In my research, I will be creating an extract from the s. officinalis plant and administering different concentrations of the extract to the planaria. I hypothesize that the highest concentration of extract used will produce the fastest rate of regeneration in respect to their lethal dosage.
