As reading and writing are interdependent, our instruction in one subject supports learning in the other. Reading is designed to offer a simple structure so that the teacher can focus on the complex work of observing students' progress and teaching to address their unique needs and strengths.
The year will be broken into five units:
Unit 1: Nurturing our Reading Lives
Unit 2: What’s the Point? Determining the Main Ideas Authors Most Want Us to Know
Unit 3: Forming Ideas About Real and Fictional Characters: A Fiction and Biography Unit
Unit 4: Reading Across Informational Texts to Research a Topic -Test-Taking Strategies (mini-unit for 2 weeks)
Unit 5: Interpreting Characters’ Relationships in Book Clubs
