Mission and Goals of AIS ELA
The goal of AIS is to reinforce students' application of reading and writing strategies in a small group/individual environment in order to improve reading comprehension and writing performance in English classes and on the NYS assessments.
The lessons are tailored and personalized for each student's areas for growth, as determined by their daily work in English classes, reading comprehension diagnostic assessments, and I-Ready scores.
Progress will be monitored through completion of lessons on Google Classroom as well as through the digital I-Ready instructional program.
In general, some skills and strategies we will be focusing on include using context clues to improve vocabulary, making inferences, determining main idea(s), drawing conclusions, citing evidence from the text to support our thinking and paragraph writing.
Study/test-taking skills related to ELA, as well as pre-teaching/re-teaching of material, will be taught as needed to facilitate improvement and growth.
