High school is a time to explore and deepen interests. Through a combination of core content courses and electives, students have the opportunity to plan broad thematic and interest-based learning strands that correspond with their strengths and passions.

A primary goal of the Rye Neck High School is the development of self-directed learners who take ownership of their educational journeys. To reach that goal, beyond a full range of courses and AP classes in all content areas, we provide a broad range of Focus Electives and opportunities:

Independent study
Science Research
Action Research for Community Change
Fine arts, music, and theater programs
Competitive academic teams and individual competitions

Independent Learner Program

Unique to Rye Neck, the Independent Learner Program (ILP) offers students a chance to develop an in-depth project in an area of special interest. The program includes:

Action Research for Community Change - A social science research think tank.
Seekers & Solvers - Technology and Entrepreneurship
Discovery - A flexible opportunity for students to explore topics that may lead towards finding an authentic purpose.
Do Your Thing - For students who want to spend a substantial amount of time outside of school developing a talent that goes above and beyond a recreational pursuit. Students in this program take courses at colleges, enter classical music and literary competitions, write novels and invent products.
