Happy March!

Check back often for classroom updates!

We love to measure!

March 21, 2024

Today we worked in groups to measure a stick figure! We measured using a combination of ten's sticks and centimeter cubes. Then, we recorded our answers in our workbooks. We also talked about the importance of using labels on our numbers!

More efficient measuring

March 19, 2024

Today we learned a more efficient way to measure! Before, we had been using single centimeter cubes, and while it worked for smaller objects, lining up centimeter cubes one by one for longer objects took a long time! So, today we learned about 10's sticks. Each tens stick is 10 centimeters long and we used them to measure longer objects around our desks. We also learned that once we can't add anymore 10's sticks then we can switch to the centimeter cubes to finish the measurement.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

March 15, 2024

Today we had a visit from  Leo the leprechaun! We set out traps and some fake gold in hopes that we could trap him, however, he was too smart! He realized the gold was fake as he was about to leave through the window. But he did leave us a note and a little surprise on every desk- a tiny lucky duck!

A Visit from Ms. Carter and Measuring!

March 14, 2024

Today we had Ms. Carter come visit up and teach us about using our breathing to calm our bodies and about problem solving!! Ms. Carter is subbing for Mrs. Fuentes (our school counselor) while she is out on maternity leave!

In math, we used centimeter cubes to measure!

Opinion Writing

March 13, 2024

We have been hard at work writing opinions! Today we looked at 3 different stuffed animal dogs and then we had to decide which one we liked best! After we decided, we practiced using a full sentence to answer the question. Then, we worked on writing that sentence down and adding details!

Wondering in Wonder Studio

March 11, 2024

Today in wonder studio we continued our thinking into toys and games. We focused today on thinking about what new creations we could make. We read through books and then brainstormed in our notebooks. I was very impressed with the ideas they came up with!

Book Drive Counting & Cup Phones

March 6, 2024

This morning we started counting books from the book drive! 1MW and 1CL started yesterday and counted up to 350 books!

Each student counted out ten books and made a pile and then we counted by tens to see how many books we had. We worked so quickly that Mrs. Goldberg had us count a whole box! When the box was empty, we conducted our final count and we had made it to 780 books!!!

There are still so many more books to be counted and we are thrilled to have so many books to donate to students in need! Our book drive is open until March 15 so there is still time to donate if you have children's books you are looking to donate!

For science, we created an experiment on sound waves! We made cup phones and we tested to see if our voices traveled better when we had a tight string in between the phones or a loose string. We had so much fun whispering to our partners!

Book Drive!

March 5, 2024

This year first graders are taking control of the book drive! Mrs. Goldberg came to our room to tell us all about what the book drive is and where are donated books go. She then invited us to help count and organize the books before they leave our school! We are so excited to get started tomorrow!

Coding and Collections!

March 4, 2024

Today we had tech! Mrs. Goodman taught us all about coding! We learned about how computer and video games read codes and then got to practice making some of our own!

During writing time, we shared our collections with other students in the class. We told about our special collection and then decided about which one was our favorite and some reasons why. Tomorrow we will be writing down our opinion about our collection!
