An Interview I wrote on a classmate:
On the Field
Shoulder to shoulder, the sound of heavy breathing and sweat hangs in the air, quick moves break the scrum and he charges towards number 10. Cochrane High student Vincent Pendelton spends the summer on lush green fields playing rugby barreling through less fortunate players. Pendleton was born on November 21st, 2007 in the city of Vancouver. He grew up in Walnut Grove, a peaceful neighborhood positioned next to the highway, the sound of rushing cars providing white noise for everyday living. In 2012 the Pendletons took off to Cochrane, leaving the city behind and settling down in Alberta. At the age of 10, Pendleton joined the Bow Valley rugby team with a close friend, and ultimately discovered his passion for the sport, “Rugby was the one thing that stuck.” He says.
The cool breeze washes over him, as his cleats step onto the field the familiar nervous and excited feeling crawls up his limbs, he feels on top of the world. The adrenaline is what Pendleton lives for “You feel energized and motivated enough to kill a bear” He states. Pendleton plays the flanker, his primary job in the scrum is to charge for the smaller number ten, and assure he doesn’t receive the ball, “My job is to basically break the ribs of player 10.” As he would put it. This role is perfect for this passionate player because his favorite moment during the rugby game is crushing the other team’s players into the dewy, green grass. In 2022 Pendleton tackled his way into winning the U16 regional championships with his rugby team, my father and Pendletons ex-coach found this news very shocking “Vincent won regional champs?” he asked “He must have really improved his game when I coached him he always had potential, guess he took advantage of it.” he laughed, winning the championships was a very large accomplishment for the team, creating memories and strengthening the group of 15 for the next big game. When playing on the field Pendleton's role is to support the winger into getting a try and he takes this role very seriously, “He becomes very focused and serious.” states Nate Hoskin, a player on the Bow Valley Rugby team. Pendleton does this by either creating space for the winger or making a 2v1. He baits the defender to tackle him instead of a smaller, faster winger, permitting the winger to score by cutting through the defensive line allowing for a try. Pendleton now plays for the Cochrane high school team, and will hopefully continue this path for the rest of high school.
From traveling to a new and unfamiliar town to winning the U16 regional championships with his team, the passion of this player has brought him to great success and lots of improvement with loads of fun and excitement along the way. The future is bright for the Cochrane rugby team especially with Vincent Pendleton now playing on their side, although the opposition must watch out… especially number 10.
My Capstone Project!
My Group and I created a consignment store for Cochrane High School, as an attempt to limit waste thrown in lands fills. We sold items that were donated to us and if it sold we returned 70% of the profit to the original owners.
Check out what we had in store!! (We had some pretty cool Items:) )
After lots of planning and emails and second thoughts, we finally set up our store in the Cobra cave. There were lots of interesting looks but very few people actually bought any items, the first item we sold was a pack of customizable buttons!
