The Activities

Some Ideas for Activities

Monthly School-Wide Challenges

Each month, classes participate in a common Maker Challenge. These challenges have followed a year-long theme of Fairy Tales to incorporate literacy as students and staff work to develop a Maker Mindset. These challenges focus on the design process and use simple building supplies such as cardboard, recycled materials, Lego, simple connectors (tape, elastics, pipe cleaners), etc. This plan includes The 7 Habits and 21st Century Competencies that can used used for evaluation and reporting purposes.

Breakout EDU Challenges

In Breakout EDU Challenges, players work collaboratively to solve a series of critical thinking puzzles in order to open a locked box.

Challenges can be found at the Breakout EDU website and also can be created by staff and students.

There are a variety of already made challenges related to different curricular areas, holidays and literature.

More information about Breakout EDU can be found at the following website.

Independent Activities

Having a variety of low tech and high tech resources that students can use independently in the learning commons helps to foster creativity, problem solving and independence.

Students have access to lego, gears, a coding mouse, loose parts, recycled materials, adhesives, a whiteboard wall, tools and more!
