The Student Success Plan Process

Student Success Plans (SSP's), formerly known as IPP's, are a learning plan created to support students with diverse learning needs. A Student Success Plan will be required when a student has been identified as having academic, physical, developmental, and/or social-emotional needs that impact their success at school. To begin the SSP process, your student will need a diagnosis of a condition that is affecting their learning. This can come from your family doctor, a psychologist, or a psychiatrist.

A Personal Learning Plan (PLP) is a plan for students who have previously had an SSP, but have developed effective strategies, or may need supports above what is offered universally, but do not currently meet the diagnosis criteria for an SSP.

ALL STUDENTS have access to "Universal Supports" at school. Please see below for the "Universal Supports" available to all students which do not require a PLP or an SSP to access or request.

The process for requesting an Student Support Plan:
Step 1: Provide the school with a copy (keep the original) of the diagnosis document
Step 2: The learning support teacher will complete a file review in collaboration with our school psychologist.
Step 3: If appropriate, the student will be assigned an education code that provides them with an SSP.
Step 4: The learning support teacher with meet with the student and/or the parents to gather background information, and learning needs.
Step 5: A plan and supports will be put into place to assist the student. The learning support teacher will communicate this plan to the students teachers.
Step 6: At the end of Semester 1 and Semester 2, parents will receive feedback from teachers thorough the SSP about how the student is doing.

Don't have a diagnosis?
If you are unable to get a diagnosis for your student, but feel that they are in need of some supports, please contact your student's learning support teacher. Supports can still be provided without an SSP.
