English III is a course designed to prepare students for the academic challenges of college and for life beyond school. The overall theme for the class is Exploring Our World. We will seek an understanding of our world through both reading and writing. All of the assigned texts are related in the author’s effort to comment on human nature, society, and the world around us. We will develop our reactions on these topics as well as write our own commentaries on the world we live in.
Epic: Beowulf
Research: Career Exploration Research Paper
Narrative: excerpts from Born a Crime by Trevor Noah
Drama: Macbeth by William Shakespeare
Satire/Dystopian: Animal Farm by George Orwell
Vocabulary Unit
Google Classroom
This course utilizes Google Classroom. Essays and projects will be submitted electronically. If the assignment is NOT submitted on Classroom and it should be, the assignment results in a zero.
Homework
Homework should be completed and turned in on the day it is due. Late homework will receive half credit.
Absences
If you are absent it is your responsibility to find out if you need to make up any work. You can either 1. come to tutorial to speak with me or 2. email me the day you are absent.
Classroom Expectations
Be Prepared: Do the reading and come into class ready to participate in some form
Be Respectful: Each person is entitled to their own thoughts and opinions and our class will be a space for them to be heard
Speak your mind: What you have to say is important
Ask for help: You are your own best advocate, if you are struggling in some form, reach out!!
