I promise this is not a 30-minute class on making to-do lists!! To-do lists are great, but there is much more to learn regarding executive functioning skills. As a speech-language pathologist, I realized that in order to make lasting changes in my students' communication skills, I would have to help them improve their ability to focus, plan, prioritize, self-regulate their emotions, and self-monitor their behavior. Understanding executive functioning has been a game changer for me as a teacher, therapist, and parent. The positive changes I have seen in my students with this approach and understanding have fueled my interest in this topic. Come for a talk (and probably some laughs) about executive functioning skills and take away a few tips on how to help your adolescents improve their independence, time management, self-control, working memory, and perseverance.
