While studying the Principles of Emphasis & Movement, SSMS 8th grade Studio in Art artists created compositions inspired by the Street Art of Banksy or Haring...or both! Banksy is the pseudonym of an anonymous England-based street artist and political activist active since the 1990’s. His epigrams range from dark humor to the uplifting and whimsical. Banksy uses graffiti and a distinctive stenciling technique. The "Pop" Street Art of Haring often carried social messages. Haring's "cookie cutter" people became a symbol of shared humanity and his signature "radiant baby" a symbol of hope and human potential.

A presentation of this lesson is posted below, as well as 2 short videos: One is of a famous Banksy prank in 2018; the other is an archival CBS evening news clip from 1982 about Haring changing the face of graffiti in NYC.
