In general, a Senior Project is for Seniors. It is possible, though, to start one as a Sophomore or Junior if it is a sustainable project or will take longer than one year to complete. This is not a required project unless the student is in CP English 12. Though not required, it is a great opportunity to improve your school, community, or yourself. And it is a good essay for scholarships! Also, many universities are using this type of project for application points.
The student will be required to work 30 hours toward their project. Most of it will be spent toward project work and some time spent for research. The student will be able to work on their project throughout the school year until the last week in April. They will have to create a presentation. If in CP English, it is part of your Senior paper. They will be taking a lot of photos as they are important to the project. When completed, they will present their project to judges, showcase their projects at the Senior Gallery, and receive an award for completing their project.
Students must select projects by October 1. Work begins in October. Several meetings will be held before October with Mrs. Hemming, student, and mentor.
A Senior Project takes a lot of planning and effort, but it’s well worth it! If you have any questions about Senior Projects, please email cindy.hemming@rvbears.org.
