Welcome to my class!

Hello!

I thought I’d take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Laura Parks and I will be your child’s teacher for math and science. I am looking forward to our year together.

I have been at Rutland since 1989, and over the years have taught a little bit of everything for grades three through eight, with most of those years being at the junior high level. I am currently teaching math and science for grades six through eight...and I must confess, I absolutely love math! I hope that my students will also love my subjects before the year is out.

I grew up on a farm south of Marseilles, attending Grand Ridge Grade School, Marquette High School, and then IVCC and the University of Illinois. I have been married to my husband, Nick, for 31 years and we have three children: My oldest is my son, Schuyler, who is an Air Force pilot stationed in Texas with his lovely wife (who just happens to be a Rutland graduate!); my daughter, Sedona, is a fifth grade teacher in Arizona; and my youngest son, Sterling, is a student at Illinois State University, majoring in nursing. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, hanging out with family and friends, going for walks, spending time outside, and going on trips to visit my children.

I care deeply for my students, some of whom I taught their parents (!), and I want them to know they can count on me to be there for them if they need me. Please contact me through phone or email if you have any questions or concerns.
