Filming techniques

See below for tips on creating a great film!

Camera angles

Which kinds of angles will you use for interviews, b-roll footage, establishing shots?

Framing

How close does the subject need to be to the camera?

Lighting

Make sure the subject of your shot is well lit -make sure the natural light is in front of them (don't sit in front of a window)

Background

Make sure your background is tidy and doesn't distract the audience from the interviewee.

Stabilization

Use a technique to stabilize your shot.

If your footage is shaky it will distract your audience.

Sound

Make sure you get good quality sound -you may need to use an external microphone.

Landscape shot

Make sure you are filming landscape. All professional film is done in landscape -not portrait.

Storyboards

We will complete these in class for a documentary we plan about school.
