Students take a quiz every Friday and it is returned on Monday. On the back of the quiz is a correction form. Students may redo any problem they missed and describe what they did wrong. The corrections are due by Friday and each problem corrected earns back 1 of the 2 points they missed.
Test retakes are offered any Thursday after school (or during 7th period by appointment). Before a student may retake a test, they must complete the test correction form attached below, have it signed by someone who has gone over the test with them, and bring it with them on the day they retake the test. The test correction form is their ticket to get the retest. Tests may only be retaken once so don't retake the test until you're confident in your ability to show mastery.
The fundamental purpose of the 7th Grade Mathematics course is to extend the mathematics that students learned in previous years in the area of proportional reasoning. Also, this course is designed to introduce concepts such as linear equations and scale drawings to be formalized in the following years. This course is written aligned to California Common Core State Standards – Mathematics.
In grade 7, instructional time should on four critical areas: (1) developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships; (2) developing understanding of operations with expressions and linear equations; (3) solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume; and (4) drawing inferences about population based on samples.
