Through consistent and persistent practice, students in the Miller Band program are able to achieve above grade-level results. Students are taught warm up and practice techniques in class and are expected to continue the learning at home with regular, scheduled practice time. Minimum practice requirements are 100 Minutes of independent practice per week.
Students are expected to practice and learn their parts independently, and come to band class prepared to rehearse. Music theory, instrumental techniques and full band performance concepts are taught at school.
Private lessons are encouraged, as they enhance the experience and give students one-to-one attention with a specialist on their specific instrument. Private lessons are available at local music stores and universities.
The most advanced students chose to practice more than the required number of minutes for their class, and it shows! Students who are especially motivated may be recommended for honor bands, jazz band, or other special opportunities.
