The mission of the Business & Culinary Arts (BCA) Academy is to prepare young leaders with the skills necessary to compete and network in a global economy.
The Business and Culinary Arts Academy promotes 73% of the classes being available as FREE college credit. Students can elect to earn college credit and certificates for these courses through the Transcripted Credit program supported by Gateway Technical College. This translates to thousands of dollars savings and an early start toward a college degree.
Additionally, there are many job opportunities and internships made available to our Business and Culinary Arts Academy students. Youth Apprenticeship and Cooperative Education are two capstone projects that provide hands-on, school to work initiatives. Youth apprenticeships are designed for high school students who want hands-on learning at a job. Cooperative education is a structured method of combining classroom-based education with work. Internships to Jobs helps pave the way to penetrating some of the city's most prominent employers. Approximately 69% of large companies made full-time job offers to interns in 2012 and 39% of small companies made full-time jobs available to interns.
Student organizations help round out the total Business and Culinary Arts experience. FCCLA, DECA, and FBLA allow students to network, which is an essential skill in today's workforce and is critical to earning future jobs. Our organizations introduce students to prominent community members in an attempt to cultivate those relationships early on. Our student organizations also give students the opportunity to travel, take their learning outside of the classroom, give back to the community, and develop leadership skills.
