Weekly email blast:
Sept. 28
Hello, band families! All students and parents are copied.
This was another WOW week for the Marching Bulldogs. We earned another FIRST PLACE finish at our TOB competition, including "Best Music" (we only lost "Best Visual" by half a point). Congrats to Andrew for being recognized as "Performer of the Week!" I'm also excited to announce that we are currently RANKED FIRST, according to highest overall scores, in a field of ALL 36 GROUP 1A BANDS in ALL REGIONS of TOB
Thank you to our band families for everything you did this week to make it successful, from throwing band shirts and black socks in the laundry, to donating food for football dinners, to picking up from a late night game or an afternoon competition, to cheering in the stands, and pushing equipment on the field. All of that makes it possible for the band to focus on rehearsals, teamwork, and balancing school/band/family/friends.
Finally, check out all of our media for the week: 1) Instagram, 2) a video of the competition, 3) Mr. Olivero's photographs from the game and competition (access Olivero Photography here, password: rfh2025).

COMPETITION RECAP
We scored a 75.66 (out of 100) in our first place Region 7 Group 1A finish on Saturday, and earned "Best Music" (we only lost "Best Visual" by half a point!). We are judged according to scoring rubrics in five captions every week, three music and two visual. Sometimes there are separate judges and awards for percussion and color guard, but there were not this week. We are currently RANKED FIRST, according to highest overall scores, in a field of ALL 36 GROUP 1A BANDS in ALL REGIONS of TOB!
If your family is new to competing, Region 7 includes central Jersey bands. Later in the season we will compete at the state level, which also includes Regions 1 and 10 (other numbered regions are in other states). Group 1A refers to our size and competition level. Group 1 is any band up to 30 musicians (you can have as many color guard as musicians). Class A is above festival level, which is not competitive at all, but below O, or Open, which includes more competitive bands (they have typically won championships in the past, finished their season with a score of 92 or above, or been recommended by the judges). There are currently 7 total 1A bands in Region 7. The next two weekends we will compete in a field of 2–4 bands, and at regionals we will compete with all 7. At the state competition we will see more than a dozen other 1A bands.
GO DAWGS!
