Course Description

English I integrates the study of language and literature to enhance/reinforce the literacy capacities and higher-order critical thinking skills needed for the 21st Century. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition/development of the literacy capacities needed for college and career readiness. Students enrolled in English I will read/respond to canonical and contemporary works of literature, tracking historical diverse voices and examining the role and power of those voices, both then and now, when looking towards our future. Analysis into these texts, past and present, will provide insight into a variety of cultural issues and exposure to the primary genres of literary expression.
