"Approaching the end of the school year (as our Australian school year runs late January to early December), I wanted to do something a bit looser, large scale and painterly, so my year 7s have made some landscape paintings (in the great Australian tradition) rather than maps for this part of our shared project.
These were painted in acrylics, with large brushes and loose brush strokes, and quite quickly (2 x 80 minute lessons, with some students completing two paintings in that time). We used source images found on the internet - seeking out stereotypical Australian landscape images but without any instantly recognisable tourist sites (no Uluru or Circular Quay), and concentrated on trying to mix colours to match the colour palette, as well as the quality of brushwork made with large brushes."

"Our project started with developing layered images in Procreate based on Google Earth screenshots of our school site. We played with the colour schemes and tried out various patterns and textures using the tools in the app.
Our next stage was to turn these designs into acrylic painted canvases, and we are very pleased with the bold results."
