Valeria obtained her MSc degree in medicinal chemistry at the University of Pisa (Italy), where she conducted her master's research project on the synthesis of indole-based compounds as a potential treatment for neurodegenerative diseases. In November 2021, she started her PhD at the University Pisa in the same field. Her research project, titled "Development of small molecules as modulators of cell life-death pathways", focused on the synthesis of compounds with a heterocyclic core as anticancer agents or targeting neurodegenerative pathways. During her PhD she joined the Roelfes group as a visiting PhD student. In November 2024, she became a Postdoctoral researcher in the Roelfes group, focusing on radical catalysis in artificial enzymes.
